BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College’s 21st annual Honors Day acknowledging the exceptional academic accomplishments of students and faculty was held May 10.

Local students honored include:

• Connor Dumont of Auburn received the Bowdoin Teacher Scholars. 

• Diego Villamarin of Auburn received the U.S. Chemical Rubber Company Laboratory Award.

• Johanna Moody of Poland received the Russian Scholar Laureate.

CANTON, New  York — Marguerite A. Wiser of Bridgton has been inducted into the St. Lawrence University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the national honor society for liberal arts and sciences undergraduates.

BENNINGTON, Vermont — Zachary Frank of Fryeburg of the The McCormick Division of Business at Southern Vermont College received the Campus Ambassador Award at its Spring Convocation.

ELMIRA, New York — Tilila El Yazidi of Hebron was honored during the Elmira College 47th annual Athletics Award Banquet on May 22. Members from Elmira’s 20 varsity teams, as well as the Sports Medicine Department, received end-of-year awards throughout the nigh.

Yazidi, who played women’s tennis, was awarded the Booster Club Player of the Year, which is given to a player who has completed a full season in one sport. Consideration is given to “Sportsmanlike” qualities and outstanding playing contributions in game situations. An award is presented for each individual intercollegiate sport.

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire — The Saint Anselm College Albert H. Gordon Fellowship for the summer of 2017 has been awarded to Emily Rice from Farmington.

The fellowship, awarded by the Academic Advisory Committee of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, allows a student to participate in the institute’s many opportunities and to perform research and writing tasks critical to the institute’s mission.

With the Gordon Fellowship, Rice will research and write about two topics that sparked her interest during study abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland: the decline of the Labour Party in Scotland and Wales as well as the resurgence of Scottish Nationalism. She will collaborate with Assistant Professor Erik Cleven, Ph.D., who sponsored her for the summer grant.

SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts — Emily Cormier of Mechanic Falls, majoring in Physical Therapy, was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities in a recent CoCurricular Awards ceremony at American International College.

Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities is awarded to juniors or seniors at AIC who have demonstrated personal growth through sustained leadership in clubs, organizations, athletics, and/or in the community while serving as positive role models both inside and outside the classroom.
