Work started Thursday noon on Maine’s newest and most up-to-date bank, that of the First Auburn Trust Co. Not only will it be the most thoroughly modern bank in Maine, but it will embody many features without duplicate in New England. It will be built on the lot recently cleared at the Auburn end of the North bridge. One of the principal features of the bank, and one which the directors are proud of, is the security vault. This vault will have a Mosler manganese steel door of circular type, and but one other bank in New England has one. This absolutely burglar-proof construction is an important feature of the bank, as is the fireproof construction of the rest of the new building.

Lewiston Mayor William Rocheleau was the guest this morning at a pizza party at Farwell School, held to note the final day of the Lewiston Headstart program. In two and a half weeks, the 83 children will be enrolled in the public and parochial schools. During the eight-week session, the children were exposed to several speakers on health, safety, sculpturing. They have had field trips to the beach, farms and the library, and have been given physicals and dental care.

Construction began this week on a new $750,000 apron next to the terminal building at the Auburn-Lewiston Airport. The project, which will provide 50 new tie-downs, will be finished within 90 days. It will result in a new apron covering 18,000 square yards and provide 650 feet of new flight line space — which will provide additional room if a new hangar is developed at the airport.
