HOWLAND — Arlene M. LaChapelle, 101, passed away August 17 at Cummings Healthcare in Howland. She was born June 11, 1916 in Lewiston, the daughter of Fred and Bertha Heman LaChapelle. She was educated in the Lewiston school system and graduated from LHS in 1934. Arlene served in the Navy (WAVES) from 1943 to 1946 and was assigned to the Naval Training Center in Philadelphia. She worked for several years at the Bates Fabrics Mill in Lewiston until her retirement in 1979.
Arlene was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Edmund and Alfred, her sister Charlotte LaChapelle Soule and her niece Sharon Soule Langella. She is survived by her nephew, Edmund Soule of Enfield; her niece, Beverly Soule Pope of E. Machias; several great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; and several cousins and friends.
