ANDOVER — Town Emergency Management Agency Director Leo Camire told selectmen this week that stabilizing a banking on Upton Road and one on Covered Bridge Road have been deferred because of a lack of money.

The first project is estimated to cost $50,000; the second, $100,000.

Both are listed in the updated Oxford County Hazard Mitigation plan, which selectmen reviewed and signed at their meeting Tuesday. It will be updated every five years, Camire said.

“What this hazard mitigation (plan) does is this allows us to get grants,” he said.

Two projects listed in the update were completed in 2015: improving Crocker Bridge between East B Hill and Cross roads; and stabilizing a banking on Upton Road to improve drainage.

Also Tuesday, Selectman Sharon Hutchins read part of a letter from Cemetery Committee Chairwoman Donna Libby, saying state law requires a person to get permission from a lot owner or heirs to touch stones.

Nonresident Tom Fore asked the committee’s permission to clean veterans’ stones at the Lovejoy Cemetery on Farmers Hills Road.

Selectman Mark Thurston said he would tell Fore he needs to get the families’ permission.

Selectmen accepted board Secretary Tracy Allegra’s resignation, who has held the job nearly a year. She is taking a full-time secretarial position at Praise Assembly of God church in Rumford.

Selectman Jane Rich said she was sad to lose her. “She is so efficient,” she said.

Selectmen signed a proclamation for Go Gold, which supports childhood cancer awareness this month.
