Buckfield Board of Selectmen

Sept. 5, 2017

Buckfield Town Office

Bridge funding

What happened: Selectmen voted to allow Jeff Stern of the Androscoggin River Watershed Council to seek additional funding to fix the Shed Hollow Road Bridge.

What it means: Interim Town Manager Brad Plante and Town Clerk Cindy Dunn will finalize the resolution and present it to selectmen. Earlier this year, Buckfield was awarded a $95,000 Department of Environmental Protection grant to fix the rusted-out culvert bridge over Darnit Brook because trout are getting stuck and dying in it.

What’s next: Selectmen will address the resolution at their meeting Sept. 22. Stern will know whether or not the town will receive the second grant from Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture by December or January 2018.

What happened: Selectmen voted to participate in the Local Update of Census Addresses Operation.

What it means: The town will update address information in preparation for the 2020 census. Dunn estimated there have been 20 or so new addresses since the 2010 census.

What’s next: Plante will send in the paperwork.

Thank-you to fire chief

What happened: Plante publicly thanked Fire Chief Tim Brooks for helping clear a tree off Paris Hill Road on Sept. 1.

What it means: Brooks responded from work in his personal vehicle and he and Plante cut the tree so school buses and other vehicles could get through.

Public hearings

What happened: Selectmen scheduled a public hearing for the General Assistance Ordinance and reminded the public about the hearing for the Governance Analysis project on which Plante is working.

What it means: The General Assistance hearing is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the small meeting room at the Municipal Center, 34 Turner St. The Governance Analysis meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the large second-floor meeting room in the Municipal Center.

What happened: Selectmen appointed Sara Klotz to the Budget Committee for one year.
