DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Town of Mexico will celebrate its 200th birthday in 2018. There will be activities throughout the year. We are looking for participants for activities, including: a Revolutionary War Re-enactment Group; participants for a Woodsman’s Day; parade participants, including Shriners; antique vehicles, town emergency vehicles, Scout troops and other youth groups; bands, gymnasts, martial arts groups, floats, food vendors, bounce houses, entertainers, clowns, photo booths, crafters who sell their wares but who also want to demonstrate something that can be easily shared; and cooks and chefs for a chili, chowder, and pie competition.

Please, if you have talents in any of these areas and would like to be put on our lists to be contacted as the year progresses, call Marilla Couch, Mexico Bicentennial Committee secretary, at 418-1729. Leave a message. We want Mexico to be remembered and you can help! –Marilla, Mexico

ANSWER: This sounds amazing! I hope you get lots of participation. I’m sure you need many hands to make all this happen. My hat is off to you and your Bicentennial Committee for taking on this colossal job. A 200th birthday is definitely cause for celebration and I do hope people step up to the occasion and that all goes well.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you have a listing of people who offer snowplowing in the Lewiston-Auburn area? If so, I would appreciate it. I’m sure many of your readers would be interested. Thank you. — No name, no town

ANSWER: The last thing I want to think about is snow, but alas, it’s inevitable. It’s good to be planning ahead and fall is just around the corner, followed by all the white stuff that needs to be moved and sanded and salted and sometimes cussed at. Here is what I have in my rolodex from our last winter season: Benner & Son, a landscaping company in Auburn, 782-4920.

Eddie’s Maintenance offers snowblowing, plowing and can even clean off your roof. You can reach them at 212-0852.

Brown’s Construction specializes in roofing and siding but they also assist with home projects of all sizes, including snow removal. You can reach them at 224-2226.

If you check the classified section of the Sun Journal under “Services,” there is a subsection where contractors advertise their snow removal services. If you are a provider of these services and would like to purchase advertising in this section, call The Sun Journal at 784-5411 and someone will help you make that happen.

Lastly, if any readers know of someone in the L-A area who they would like to recommend, please let me know and I will put it in Sun Spots. I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out.
