DEAR SUN SPOTS: A joint fundraising yard sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, by the Lewiston Auburn Kiwanis Club and Boy Scout Troop 121. The fundraiser is from 7 a.m. to noon at United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave., Auburn, rain or shine.

While you are gathering your yard sale items to donate, please also consider donating gently used or new shoes of all sizes and types for the Kiwanis Club Shoe Drive that begins during the yard sale.

In conjunction with Funds2Orgs, the Kiwanis Club will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected. The shoes will make a difference in people’s lives. You can help the club raise funds for student scholarships, along with supporting several programs in the area that focus on children and youth.

Proceeds earned by the Kiwanis Club at the yard sale will be donated to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. This nonprofit agency promotes the healing of victims of child sexual abuse by providing a strong community response to investigation, treatment and prevention of abuse.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A couple of days ago I had lunch at the “Big Stop” in Farmington. When I went to pay the waitress, she said it was already paid for by a man and woman who were eating there. I just wanted to say, “Thank you very much! Semper Fi.” —No name, no town

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have been unable to locate a company that does residential snowplowing and/or snowblowing and shoveling in the Gamage Avenue area in Auburn. Any help will be greatly appreciated. — No name, Auburn

ANSWER: I hope our listing published in the Thursday’s (9/14) Sun Spots helped you. I also want to again encourage our readers to write in with their recommendations. Having someone who is handy with snow removal equipment is a big necessity around here but let’s hope we don’t need it for a while yet!
