LEWISTON — Richard M. LaBrecque, 77, a resident of Sabattus, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, at Central Maine Medical Center following a long illness with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 23, 1939, the son of Bertrand and Fernande (Bernatchez) LaBrecque.

Richard grew up in New Auburn, and was a graduate of Lewiston High School. Following school, he worked for his family at the former LaBrecque Variety in Lewiston, eventually becoming the owner for many years until it closed in the late 1970s. He went on to work for many years at Lewiston Water Department as a meter reader until his retirement in 1999.

Following retirement, he worked part time at various local businesses in Lewiston. He enjoyed cooking, family outings and his four grandsons.

Survivors include three daughters, Anne Bergeron and companion Mike Pelletier of Auburn, Lisa Pomerleau and husband Armand of Sabattus, and Julie LaBrecque and husband Christopher Mitchell of Winterport. Two sisters, Diane Doyon and husband Donald, and Suzanne Dubois and husband Denis all of Lewiston. Also surviving are four grandsons, Zak Bergeron and wife Ashley, Noah and Alex Pomerleau, and Wyatt Stearns.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline (Vachon) LaBrecque, in 2013.

The family would like to thank the staff at Marshwood Health Care as well as the staff at Central Maine Medical Center during his illness.
