AUBURN – Auburn police have charged 18-year-old Blaze Smalls of Auburn with failure to stop for an officer, criminal mischief and operating without a license, after a brief encounter ended with a crash Friday.
According to Sgt. Gary Boulet, Officer Travis Barnies turned on his lights to stop Smalls for a stop sign violation on Gamage Avenue at 4:30 p.m.
When Smalls drove right by, Barnies recognized the local man. Boulet said by the time Barnies turned his car around to pursue Smalls’ tan SUV, it had crashed into the Margaret Murphy Center for Children at the corner of Charles Street and Western Promenade .
The two unidentified passengers with Smalls fled the scene, and Boulet said police will not be pursuing them.
No injuries were reported.
