OTISFIELD — Chairman Hal Ferguson said Tuesday that the Board of Selectmen has signed contracts with nonprofit ecomaine in Portland to handle recyclables and Almighty Waste in Auburn to transport containers.
He said that as of 1 p.m. Tuesday, the town had single-sort recycling, and there will be two containers at the Transfer Station on White Oak Hill Road to handle recyclables.
“We’re putting in two containers right now because we’re not sure how much we’re going to get at first,” Ferguson said.
In June 2017, the town signed a three-year contract with Tice Waste Management of Norway. Tice agreed to pick up all the recyclables and sell them to another company, and cut a check to the town for 5 percent of the profits.
However, at the Nov. 1 selectmen meeting, Ferguson said residents were unhappy with the Transfer Station under Tice Waste Management, and as a result, the board decided to look elsewhere for recycling service.
Selectman Rick Micklon said then that for more than four months, “we have not been provided the service and product we were promised.”
