Churches ringing bells for veterans 

LEWISTON — Churches in Maine have been requested to pray for peace and to ring their bells for two minutes at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, to remember veterans who have served the country.

This is a project of the AMVETS Department of Maine, American Legion, Post 22, American Legion District 3 Androscoggin County, Franco American War Veterans Post 31, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 of Maine, L/A Maine Military Community Network and the L/A Veterans Council.

Veterans Day ceremony planned

MEXICO — A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Mountain Valley Middle School, 58 Highland Terrace.

Legion, Sons, Auxiliary to meet

OXFORD — Anderson-Staples Post 112, American Legion, will meet on Monday, Nov. 13, beginning at 6 p.m. with a potluck supper. It will be followed by meetings of the Legion, Sons of the Legion and Legion Auxiliary about 7 p.m. at the post, 169 King St.

Native American grandmother to speak

RUMFORD — The Beacon House, 3 Canal St., will host Joyce Bryant, a Native American grandmother from Ossipee, N.H., from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Nov. 14.

The group is open to any woman who would like more information about dealing with hard times according to Native American tradition.

Members to relate history of snowmobile club

RUMFORD — The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Rumford Town Hall auditorium.

The brief business meeting will be followed by a presentation on the history of the Rumford Polar Bears Snowmobile Club by members Robert Stickney, Louise Stickney and Robert Cameron.

Light refreshments will be provided at the close of the program.

The society welcomes all members, guests and the public.

All those attending are asked to enter and exit the building through the River Street entrance by the Police Department.

SeniorsPlus to make visits

BETHEL — SeniorsPlus will be at the Norway Saving Bank, Bethel, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, and at the Norway Town Office from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27.

A representative will be on hand to answer questions or concerns about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families.

All events are free and open to the public.

Women’s club sale to benefit AYS

LIVERMORE FALLS — The GFWC/Livermore Falls Women’s Club met in October with the state and district presidents in attendance. There were 23 guests and members in attendance.

The members voted to have the proceeds of the November election bake sale go to Area Youth Sports and the June election bake sale go to the Livermore Phoenix Pantry.

On Oct. 28, members Ruth Gammon, Muriel Bowerman, Connie Fournier, Christine Fournier, Susan Sylvester, Barbara Letalien, Ghislaine Berube and Ellen Young attended the District 2 conference at the Margret Chase Smith Library, Skowhegan.

The guest speaker was Donna Strickler, executive director of the Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Center, speaking on “Human Trafficking in Maine.”

Members will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Main Land building. Guest speaker will be Laura Quinn of the Healthy Family Coalition speaking on “Nutrition.”

Third Thursday poetry group

RUMFORD — The Rumford Public Library’s monthly poetry group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16.

Members read their works and other poets’ works. There will be poetry, conversation and refreshments. All are welcome.

Daughters nominate officers

NORWAY — Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865, Stoneham, held the last meeting of the year on Oct. 25 at the home of Marilyn Jones.

Nomination of officers for the new year was held. Items were brought to send to Togus for the Christmas gift shop. Christmas stockings were filled for shut-in members.

The next meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 22, same location, when installation will be held.
