NORWAY — The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Thursday evening to accept a $6,200 bid from McNeil Farms in Hartford for the town’s 2002 Mack plow truck.

Chairman Warren Sessions Jr. opened two bids: one from McNeil Farms for $6,200 and the other from Warren Smith of Norway for $3,022.

Selectman Russell Newcomb asked Town Manager Dennis Lajoie how much the town’s highway department was looking to get by selling the truck.

“They were thinking it should go for somewhere around $10,000, but they weren’t 100 percent sure,” Lajoie replied. “We listed the truck on the (town) website and in the newspaper, and while we had a number of people show interest in it, these two bids are what we got.”

Newcomb said that he was wondering whether it would be worth putting the trucks back out to bid to see if they could get closer to the $10,000.

Sessions said he would worry about putting the trucks out to bid again and having McNeil Farms “go with a different truck in the meantime.”

“I wouldn’t want to lose the bid,” he added.

Newcomb later made a motion to approve the $6,200 bid.
