RUMFORD — Phyllis Marie Kaulback Richards, 89, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, Nov. 12. Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Rumford and the beloved wife of Armand J. Richards. Phyllis was born on May 29, 1928 in Weld, Maine. She was the fifth child of seven, born to Lauren and Oressa Rhodenizer Kaulback.

Phyllis attended the Old Virginia Grammar School and Stephens High School graduating with the Class of 1946.

Phyllis was married to Armand Richards on Sept. 8, 1947 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage together.

She was employed at Oxford Bag Company, Freddie’s Restaurant, and for 48 years at the Madison Restaurant as a bartender.

Phyllis was a member of the VFW, the American Legion Auxiliary, Chisholm Ski Club of Black Mountain, Girl Scouts of America, Daughters of Isabella and the Bomberettes Bowling League.

She was “Gram” to many children of the area, known as “Grammie Girl Scout, Grammie Skiing, and Grammie Gymnastics,” and she hosted many gatherings at her cottage at Worthley Pond in Peru.

Surviving are her four daughters, Diane Milligan and husband Robert of Rumford Point, Joanne Woods and husband David of Peru, Suzanne Bousquet and husband Roland of Mexico, and Louanne Thibodeau and husband Michael of Rumford Center; one son, Michael Richards of Portsmouth, NH; grandchildren, Tony Milligan and wife Susan of Rumford Point, Tammy Nosek and husband Richard of Newburgh, NY, Craig Woods and wife Angela of Peru, Jamie Woods and wife Melinda of Peru, Tadd Woods and wife Jennifer of Dixfield, Dustin Woods and wife Stephanie of Peru, Teatra Higgins and husband Kelly of Berwick, Lacey Bousquet of San Diego, CA, Melissa Thibodeau and companion Josh Smith of Chelsea, MA, Meagan Thibodeau and companion Adam Bate of Eliot, and Zachary Thibodeau of Manila, Philippines; great-grandchildren, Lynette (Bousquet) Hubbard, Edward Douglas and wife Amanda of Windham, Bethany Gordon of Rumford, Trinadi Milligan of Rumford Point, Ricky Nosek of Newburgh, NY, Erin Nosek of Newburgh, NY, Ethan, Kara and Adam Woods of Peru, Colten and Delaney Woods of Peru, Morgan, Emily, and Makenzie Woods of Dixfield, Brooklyn and Brianna Woods of Peru, Grace, Anna, and Ryan Higgins of Berwick; great-great-grandchild, Jack Gerrish of Rumford; three sisters, Ruby Greenwood of Newport, VT, Gladys Gilbert of Rumford, Ruth Gill and husband Robert of Rumford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she was very close to.

Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Armand, her siblings Madeline Duguay, Geneva Theriault, and Laurin (Ted) Kaulback, and granddaughter Diane Bousquet.
