OXFORD — A deer hunter from Paris remained hospitalized Sunday after being shot in both arms by a member of his hunting party Saturday afternoon, officials said.
James Footman, 32, of Paris, was being treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service.
Footman was shot by a 21-year-old Oxford man about a quarter of a mile off Plains Road, which is off Number Six Road, MacDonald said.
The Warden Service said in a news release Sunday that the shooter’s name will not be released unless charges are filed against him. It also said details regarding clothing worn by those involved will not be released either, because it is considered evidence.
The other members of the hunting group were Darcie Bolduc, 38, of Oxford and her 12-year-old son.
The four were hunting on the last day of regular firearms season in Maine, and the property they were on was open to hunting.
On the first day of deer-hunting season Oct. 28, Karen Wrentzel, 34, was fatally shot in Hebron by 38-year-old Robert Trundy. Wrentzel was on her land and was not hunting at the time.
Trundy was hunting with friends. He was charged with manslaughter in the shooting.
