LIVERMORE — Selectpersons on Tuesday approved closing the Town Office on Dec. 26 and at noon Dec. 29 so staff can close the 2017 books that day.

The board agreed by consensus to have normal office hours Friday, Dec. 22.

The board also advised that the status of Hathaway Hill Road is being researched.

“If it is an old county road, there is a public right of way,” Selectperson Wayne Timberlake said. “If the town abandoned the road, it would revert back to the landowners.”

The road connects with one in Canton and both towns have had problems with partying, dumping trash and road damage. Gates were put up in each town.

The Livermore gate, originally agreed upon by landowners to block access during mud season, has remained up year-round. Signs have also been posted.

Administrative Assistant Amy Byron said the ATV trail has been moved. The ATV club put up the signs because of rider safety during hunting season and the coming winter, and to prevent issues with landowners.

Selectperson Megan Dion said a key to the Canton gate is available at that Town Office. People can sign it out to go fishing.

A key for emergency vehicles is available at the Livermore Town Office for the Hathaway Hill Road gate. It was suggested that key also be made available to the public.

“The Canton side has public access,” Dion said. “We don’t know the status of Hathaway Hill. It will be good to know.”
