AUBURN — The Androscoggin Historical Society will sponsor an open house featuring Edward Little, the founder of Lewiston Falls Academy, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, and 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 16.

The event will take place at the society’s Davis-Wagg Museum on the third floor of the County Building.

This will be an opportunity to purchase the society’s recent book, “Dear Parent: The Biography and Letters of Edward Little,” for holiday giving. Author Doug Hodgkin will be available to sign the books.

Also featured on the tour of the museum’s artifacts will be paintings and photos of Edward Little’s family members, as well as historical photos of Edward Little High School.

The book details Little’s early career as a businessman, lawyer and politician in Newburyport, Mass., and in Portland. Finally, in 1826, at the age of 53, he settled in Danville, now Auburn. His local achievements included the foundations for the economic development of Lewiston and Auburn from an insignificant farming community to the verge of industrialization.

The book is also available during regular store hours at Victor News, 59 Park St., Lewiston.

Admission for the open house is free, although donations will be accepted. Enter the building on the Court Street side. An elevator is available.
