Dances sponsored by the Lewiston Police Athletic League may be resumed Friday, it was learned at a meeting last night between members of the Lewiston Police Commission and officials of the PAL. Mayor William Rocheleau Jr. attended the meeting and discussed with those present the new regulations for the dances. Adrien Laverdiere outlined PAL’s recommendations for those present. According to the organization’s guidelines, the balcony will be closed to all youngsters, and youths will have to stay on the dance floor once admitted or pay admission again. Laverdiere pointed out that these rules will end the past problem of young people wandering all through the building.

About 60 area residents aired their concerns at a public hearing Wednesday night over a plan proposed by the Maine Department of Transportation and the City of Lewiston to widen Lisbon Street. The plan calls for the addition of a center lane — similar to one used on Center Street in Auburn — to Lisbon Street between Foch Street and East Avenue. Several of those who spoke Wednesday, some of whom represented businesses, were worried about how the plan will affect their wallets.
