AUBURN — Phyllis W. Splain, 90, a resident of Auburn, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lexington, Mass., on June 4, 1927, the daughter of Jay Augusta and Marion (Cromwell) Walker. Phyllis was a 1945 graduate of Lewiston High School.

On May 29, 1969, in Sabattus, she married Gerald Splain. He passed away in 2001. Phyllis worked as a telephone operator for New England Telephone Co. and retired from AT&T in 1986. She was a former member of Sabattus Community Baptist Church and a current member of Court Street Baptist Church. Phyllis was a member of Telephone Pioneers, the Woman’s Literary Union in Auburn, CMMC Women’s Hospital Association and president of the garden club associated with CMMC.

She is survived by her three sisters and their spouses, Jean Tarr, of Enfield, Conn., Jane Sloat, of Auburn, and Barbara and Harland Lyman, of Monmouth; her brother and his wife, John W. and Diane Walker, of Sabattus; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Splain; two sisters, Priscilla Fletcher and Helen Morrill; two brothers, Jay A. Walker Jr. and Robert Walker; and her niece, Janet Eustis.
