AUBURN — Rachel B. Carrier, 84, of Auburn, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 22, at Clover Manor with her loving family by her side. She was born in Lewiston on March 18, 1933, a daughter of the late Paul and Cyreanne (Tremblay) Couture.

She lived and worked in the Lewiston-Auburn area her entire life. She was a former co-owner and operator of The L and A Workingman’s Club in Lewiston. While raising her children she worked at the mills and shoe shops in the Lewiston area. She had many waitressing jobs, but mostly enjoyed her time at the elegant Marois restaurant on Lisbon St. in Lewiston. She was a very devout member of St. Mary’s Church until its closing several years ago. She has been a member of Prince of Peace Parish since then, attending Mass at the various Catholic churches.

She was very proud to have volunteered at Montello School for about 10 years in the Adopt-A-Grandparent program; she was known as “Memere,” helping kids learn to read. She was also involved for several years outfitting five children each year with brand-new winter gear, so they could be warm throughout the winter. She was a member of Le Passe Temps Club, and loved her Monday night cribbage games. She had a love for entertaining and planning social gatherings with her friends at the clubs and her camps. She absolutely loved her animals, watching television — especially her soap operas and murder mysteries — playing cards, going gambling and lottery scratch tickets, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rachel is survived by her daughter, Diane Brayley, of Monmouth; two grandchildren, Jay Knowles and her husband, Jon, of Monmouth, Sherry Laliberte, of Monmouth; five great-grandchildren, who adored their Memere, Carey, Evan, Megan, Katie and Hanna; her first husband and very good friend, Henry Morin, of Lewiston; daughter-in-law, Sandra Morin, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Marius (Mike) Carrier; her son, Henry Morin Jr.; and her sister, Jackie Lavoie.
