“I am personally strong for the “Made in Lewiston and Auburn Week,” said George W. Raymond, head of the Raymond Paper Co. of Lewiston and newly elected head of the Lewiston chamber of commerce, “and I think every member of the chamber is with me. “Oh, we need an auditorium badly. This is the natural convention center of the State. We have a third of the population of the State within fifty miles of us, and in every way — railroad fares, transportation advantages, etc. — we are the real heart of Maine. Do you suppose State fair could have held out year after year against adverse weather conditions if we hadn’t been so advantageously located?”

50 years ago, 1968
Not only did the groundhog fail to see his shadow today, but it is rather doubtful that he can see anything clearly. A heavy fog blanketed the entire state and most of the northeast portion of the country.

25 years ago, 1993
The Maine Music Society’s artistic director, Peter Frewen, has announced that the Lewiston performance of “A Cole Porter Party” is completely sold out. “After the fantastic audience turn-out we saw at last year’s “Jerome Kern Retrospective,“ we knew this would be a popular event, but it’s overwhelming that we’re sold out so far in advance of the performance,” says Frewen.
