FARMINGTON — Old South First Congregational Church will serve its monthly free community luncheon at noon Saturday, Feb. 10.

Delivery service will be available in Farmington. Call the church office at 207-778-0424 during the week or the church kitchen at 207-778-4438 on the morning of the luncheon for delivery

FAYETTE — Friends of Starling Hall will host a brunch from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Fayette Central School, Route 17.

Cost is $7, adults; $5, children; proceeds to benefit the continued renovation of the inside of Starling Hall. The building has moved to a new foundation, and there is still much to be done.

LEWISTON — Calvary United Methodist Church will serve its monthly bean supper at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10. Those attending should use the garden entrance on Bartlett Street.

The cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children younger than 12.

LISBON FALLS — The Knights of Columbus will serve a baked bean and casserole supper from 4:45 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Holy Trinity Church parish hall, 67 Frost Hill Ave.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children younger than 12 and $18 for families with children younger than 12.

LIVERMORE FALLS — Emmanuel Assembly of God free monthly luncheons with soups, casseroles and salads are served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second Saturday of the month at the American Legion Hall, 17 Reynolds Ave.

The lunch is open to the public.

MEXICO — An oven-fried chicken supper will be served at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Mexico Congregational Church, UCC (the “Green Church”), 163 Main St.

The price for adults is $8 and for children under 12, $3. Take-out will be available at 5:30 by calling 207-364-8603.

For those who wish to participate, an auction of whole pies to take home will be held following the meal.

NORWAY — Bolsters Mills United Methodist Church and Norway Grange serve free community breakfasts from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturdays at the American Legion on Main Street across from Rowe School.

GREENWOOD — A benefit supper for Kenneth Hoyt will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Locke Mills Legion Hall. Donations will be accepted.

WATERFORD — The Wilkins House’s community potluck supper will be served at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at the meetinghouse, 15 Plummer Hill Road beside the Waterford Congregational Church.

Suppers will continue on the third Thursday of the month through May.

Those attending should bring a dish to share. Everyone is welcome.

UMaine Extension to provide Cooking for Crowds training

FALMOUTH — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Cumberland County will offer food safety training for volunteer cooks on three dates in March at the UMaine Regional Learning Center, 75 Clearwater Drive, Suite 104.

Workshops are scheduled March 21, 9 a.m. to noon; March 22, 1 to 4 p.m.; and March 27, 6 to 9 p.m.

“Cooking for Crowds – Food Safety Training for Volunteer Cooks” offers up-to-date information on how to handle, transport, store and prepare foods safely for large group functions, such as soup kitchens, church suppers, food pantries and community fundraisers.

Participants receive “Cooking for Crowds,” a manual specifically designed for volunteer cooks; certificate of attendance; posters; and an instant-read thermometer. The class meets the Good Shepherd Food Bank food safety training requirements.
