Backed by flags, with the tables decorated profusely, the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary club gathered Tuesday noon in the big factory room of the new Brockton Heel company to give them a housewarming and a welcome to the town. There was more or less mystery about the destination of the club’s pilgrimage Tuesday, the place of meeting being given as the Lower Maine Central waiting room, where some of the members evidently expected to find a fast freight train waiting to take them to Crowley’s Junction, or some intermediate point. There was music on the air, however, about twelve o’clock, when they turned into the old National Shoemakers building where the Brockton Heel company is located. After luncheon President Getchell opened the ceremonies with a few words indicating the purpose of the meeting, and called on Mayor Lemaire to welcome the industry to Lewiston officially.

For Auburn’s Julie Parisien, winning America’s second silver medal in the World Alpine Ski Championships Tuesday at Shizukuishi, Japan, wasn’t quite good enough. Parisien, ranked No. 1 in the world in the slalom, was hoping to win the gold in memory of her brother Jean Paul, who was killed two months ago in a hit-and-run accident. “I’m skiing not just for myself, I’m living my life with my brother and for my brother,” she said. “I know he’s up there saying, ‘Come on, you can do bettor than that.’ So it’s a motivating thing for me.” She said that after her disappointing fourth-place finish In the Albertville Olympics last year, Jean Paul, who was also a former ski racer, pushed her on, telling her to avenge the loss with a gold in the world championships.
