WESTMINSTER, Md. — Claudette Joan Pownall, 73, of Westminster, Md., passed away in her sleep at her residence Friday, Feb. 9.
Born Nov. 25, 1944, in Lewiston, she was the daughter of the late Donat and Rose LaVoie Demers. She graduated from Lewiston High School.
She leaves behind her son, Ricky D. Pownal,l and daughter and son-in-law Susan and Lee Nardyz, all of Westminster; brother, Donald R. Demers of Augusta; and sister, Joline Griffith of Westminster. Claudette “MeMaw” also leaves behind her most treasured grandchildren, Taylor and Tanner Metcalf, Alisha and Thomas Ecker, Ricky and Shannon Pownall, Nicklas Nardyz, Jackie and Jamie Nave, Bradley, Brady and Katie Metcalf; great-grandchildren, Connor, Gunner and Riley Ecker, Jaylen Pownall and Logan Nave.
Claudette was known for her selfless acts of kindness and a genuine love for everyone she met. Claudette was passionate about the New England Patriots; however, she also loved her Ravens and the Baltimore Orioles. Her pastimes included working on puzzles, traveling and babysitting her great-grandkids.
Claudette was employed with Dorothy Z. Tracy Sportswear for 20 years, often working second jobs at Baughers and Bay City Restaurant. When she semi-retired, she enjoyed working in her daughter and son-in-law’s restaurant, talking to guests and giving constructive advice to all staff, who also called her “MeMaw.”
