AUBURN — Gloria K. Gowell, 96, of Mechanic Falls, died early Thursday evening, Feb. 8, at Clover Healthcare in Auburn.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1921, daughter of Peter and Margaret (Hennessey) Allain. She was educated in local schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1940.

On April 11, 1942, she married Carl M. Gowell Jr., and they made their home in Mechanic Falls.

Gloria was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child started high school, at which point she joined the workforce at Etonics in Auburn. She loved going to work everyday and stayed at Etonics until the time of her retirement.

Gloria was very creative, especially working with ceramics. Many of her works are treasured pieces gifted to family and friends over the years. She was a wonderful cook and all of her talents in the kitchen will be missed, particularly her coleslaw and her vegetable beef soup.

When Carl died in 2002, she lost her road trip partner and travel companion. They would hop in the car at any given time to simply go for a ride and end up in a coastal Maine town, or somewhere in southern Canada for a weekend getaway. For 25 years, their yearly summer trips to Prince Edward Island were their most joyful adventures.
