LEWISTON — Walter Kimball “Artie” Ames, 92, of Lewiston, formerly of Falmouth, Maine, and Winter Haven, Fla., passed away Monday, March 26, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Artie was born in Portland on June 4, 1925, to Ralph H. and Clara M. (Christiansen) Ames. He attended Portland schools and Deering High School before serving in the United States Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945. He married the love of his life, Edith (Clish), on Aug. 23, 1944.

After returning to Maine from the Coast Guard, Artie worked for 16 years for Randall & McAllister in Portland and for Eastern Bituminous in Yarmouth. In 1967, he went to work for Burbank Douglas & Co., in Falmouth, a restaurant supply business, and eventually became office manager and part owner, retiring in 1985.

After retirement, Artie and Edith moved to Winter Haven, Fla., and resided there until 2003, moving to Lewiston to be closer to family. Edith passed away Nov. 21, 2008, and Artie missed her dearly every day.

He is survived by his daughter, Leslie, and her husband, Ronald Brunetti, of Lewiston, and his grandchildren Paul Brunetti of Portland and Velma Lorfano of Pownal. He is also survived by a son-in-law, Donald Colello, of Henderson, Nev.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Edith; and his daughter, Cathy Colello; four brothers, Ralph Jr., Sidney, Lloyd and Kenneth; and one sister, Constance.
