LEWISTON — Three different Lewiston High School players recorded hat tricks Thursday as Lewiston defeated Brunswick 10-1 in a season-opening girls’ lacrosse contest.

Christine Chasse, Grace Dumond and Rachel Ouellette all had three goals. Ouellette added two assists, while Chasse and Dumond each had one assist in the victory. Katie Lemieux also had one goal.

Rian Sachs picked up the lone goal for the Dragons.

CeCe Racine made eight saves in the victory for the Blue Devuils (1-0), while Mikaela Ashbrenner stopped 19 shots in the loss for the Dragons (0-1).

Softball

Poland 17, Freeport 0

POLAND — Ally Gagne belted a double and collected a pair of hits while Chloe Tufts ripped three singles and knocked in three runs to lead Poland to an emphatic 17-0 season-opening win over Freeport in Western Maine Conference softball action Thursday.

Gagne was also the winning pitcher for the Knights (1-0). Alexys Langley started the game for the Falcons (0-1), and Megan Cormier came on in relief in the second inning.
