BANGOR — Freshman Caroline Bass tallied five hits over the course of two games, and the Bates softball team split a doubleheader with Husson Monday evening.

Olivia Smith tossed a complete game, allowing five runs on seven hits to lead the Eagles to a 10-5 victory in Game 1 of Monday’s doubleheader. Morgan Coleman put Husson up 2-1 after just one inning of action with a two-run home run.

Smith homered in the fourth, and the Eagles tacked on three more in the fifth to extend Husson’s lead to 9-2.

Freshman Payton Buxton tossed a complete-game two-hitter as the Bobcats (17-13) blanked the Eagles 6-0 in Game 2. Husson committed four errors in the game, three of them in the fourth inning.

Andrea Russo, Mary Collette and Bass all went 2-for-4 at the plate in the nightcap for Bates.
