WEST PARIS — Leon E. Conant Jr., 89, of Bryant Pond passed away on Sunday, April 29, at Ledgeview Living Center where he had been a resident since December 2017.
He was born in Gorham, N.H., on May 15, 1928 the oldest son of Leon E., Sr. and Florence Hadley Conant. He grew up in Sumner and attended grammar school there and graduated from Norway High School in 1947. He worked for A. C. Lawrence Tannery in the shipping department. He was a lifetime member of the Maine Antique Power Association and enjoyed going to meets to display his engines. He and Helvi also had antique cars. They traveled to New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania to car shows. He had a large collection of hub caps and license plates and had one from every state.
He is survived by his significant other, Helvi; two brothers, Albert and wife Alberta of Poland and Douglas and wife Carolyn of Belgrade; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Marie; and brothers, Howard, Charles and Larry.
