RUMFORD — Post 24, American Legion, has selected Cameron Gallant, Bryce Cormier, Aaron Cameron, Skyler Santillo, William Sorensen, Garrett Garbarini, Ethan Laubauskas and Gabriel Ladd, students at Mountain Valley High School, and Alex Gorham from Dirigo High School, to participate in the American Legion Boys State.
The program, a one-week intensive education program of government instruction for high school students, will be held from June 17 to 21 at Thomas College in Waterville.
At American Legion Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices.
Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus and recreational programs.
High school juniors are selected by local American Legion posts. Mentoring of youth is one of the four pillars of the American Legion.
