LEWISTON — Barbara A Breton, 79 of Lewiston passed away peacefully at The Woodlands Memory Care Center on Sunday, July 8.

Barbara was the daughter of David and Lucia Perkins. Born in Lewiston, Maine, on May 17, 1939, she was educated in the Lewiston school system. Barbara married her sweetheart, Normand Breton, on Nov. 29, 1958. Most of Barbara’s working years were spent as an OR technician at St. Mary’s Hospital, until an injury forced an early retirement.

Barbara was an avid gardener, knitter, crocheter, painter and did ceramics while in Maine, and after when moving to Florida for 20 years. All of her family and friends are blessed to enjoy the fruits of her many talents, and will for many years. Barbara was responsible for making many memory boxes for women who lost a child during childbirth or shortly after.

During her 20 yrs in Florida, Barbara was a hospital volunteer at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach and at Halifax Hospital in Port Orange. She was a minister of the Eucharist at the Catholic Church that she attended, and has always been very involved with her church as a teacher, playing the organ or in the choir. She was an active member of the Bed Pan Band in Florida, visiting and playing at local nursing homes. In September of 2013, Barbara and Normand moved back to Maine to be with the children and grandchildren and to live out their remaining years.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Normand, of The Woodlands; sister, Rose, of Lewiston; son, John Breton, of Greene, Maine; daughters Theresa Weir of Marathon, Fla.; Claire Lachance of Auburn; and Linda Touchette of Otisfield, Maine; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Barbara is predeceased by her father, David Perkins; mother, Lucia Perkins; and her son, Michael Breton.

Messages may be sent to daughter Theresa (Terri) Weir at aweirgab@yahoo.com, and will be forwarding to the other family members, as necessary. The family would like to thank The Woodlands for the care of their mother during her illness, and are grateful for all the staff members.
