SOUTH PARIS — Mary McEwen Lane, 88, of South Paris, died Wednesday evening, July 18, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris, where she had been a resident for the last nine years.

Mary was born July 22, 1929, in Dudley, Mass., a daughter of Paul and Alma (Billings) Meyer. She attended local schools, graduating from Webster High School.

She married Thomas A. McEwen from Webster, Mass., shortly after high school. They made their home in Massachusetts for a short time before relocating to Rochester, N.H., in the mid 1950s. In 1975 they moved to Paris when Tom became the general manager at Robinson Manufacturing in Oxford. Tom died suddenly in December 1983.

Mary was a member of the Paris Hill Country Club, Stephens Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Christ Episcopal Church in Norway where she was involved in the Altar Guild. She was a tremendously loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family, who were always the center of her life. When not with her family she enjoyed golfing, shopping and social events. She was an avid walker, walking 6 miles a day with her second husband, Joseph J. Lane, who predeceased her in June 2008.

Mary is survived by her children, James D. McEwen and his wife, Michelle, of Bristol, N.H., Cindy J. Fowler and her husband, Randy, of South Paris, and David C. McEwen and his wife, Marla, of Salem, S.C.; grandchildren James D. McEwen III, Christopher McEwen, Alyssa (McEwen) Argentieri and her husband, Dan, Corey McEwen, Cody McEwen, and Cailyn Fowler. She was predeceased by her first husband, Tom McEwen, her second husband, Joe Lane; and a brother, Fred “Sonny” Meyer.

The family would like to thank the Maine Veterans’ Home for the care and support.

Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with her family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
