Waterford mills society topic

WATERFORD — The Waterford Historical Society will meet at  7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Wilkins House, next to the church in Waterford Flat.

The program will be on Peter Haskell and the mills of East Waterford, including pictures from the society’s collection.

Potluck refreshments will follow the program.

The Old Town House museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays, Aug. 3, 10 and 17.

Benefit for fire victim planned

RUMFORD — A benefit for Carolyn Brann, who lost her home to a fire, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the American Legion.

The main event is a performance by the band Roadhouse, which will be from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be food, a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction. There will not be a cover charge. 

Nature club to visit arboretum

OXFORD — The Twin Town Nature Club will visit the Viles (formerly Pine Tree) Arboretum in Augusta.

Members will meet at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the south side near Route 26 of the Walmart parking lot to carpool to Augusta. Visitors are welcome, and participants should bring a picnic lunch.

Knitting Guild to meet

OXFORD — The Western Maine Knitting Guild will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Eleanor Heidrick’s home on Route 26 for the annual pool party and potluck luncheon.

Those attending should bring something to share and knitting as well as a bathing suit.

They should also bring any items they plan to put into the fair exhibit. The theme for this year is “Our Charity Work” with hats, mittens, scarfs, shawls, lap robes and purple baby hats for the Don’t Shake Jake program. The Guild is also adding Special Olympics to the list of charities this year, so those scarfs could be displayed as well.

St. Catherine offering VBC

NORWAY — St. Catherine of Sienna Church will offer a vacation Bible camp from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday to Friday, Aug. 6 to 10, at 32 Paris St.

The camp is for children aged 4 through fifth grade. Older children may assist the leaders.
