Volunteers sought to survey turkeys

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking volunteers to do wild turkey brood surveys.

Surveys are a tool the department uses to assess turkey population trends. Information gathered helps determine turkey bag limits and seasons. They have been conducted since 2006. 

Volunteers can print out a form and start recording wild turkey sightings. Completed surveys must be returned by Aug. 31. Kelsey Sullivan, MDIFW, 650 State Street, Bangor, ME 04401.

Buckfield Legion seeks members

BUCKFIELD — Buckfield American Legion is seeking local veterans to join the Post at no cost.

The Post will pay the first year dues for those interested in becoming a member to learn what the Legion is all about. A magazine and free insurance are part of the package.

Jay Daughters of Isabella lunch

FARMINGTON — Daughters of Isabella, St. Rose of Lima Circle 677 of Jay, will have a summer social Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Lotus Blossom Restaurant in Farmington. The social will begin at 5 p.m., with the meal served at 6 p.m.

Paris Hill manufacturing companies

PARIS — Paris Cape Historical Society will host Linda Richardson, who will speak on the original manufacturing companies that existed on Paris Hill.

The presentation will be made during the society’s next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, in the meeting room at 77 High St.

Before the railroad came through South Paris, there were many companies in business on Paris Hill, and Richardson will give their history. This talk will not include the Paris Manufacturing Company, which will be featured later in the year. 

The public is welcome at this meeting, after which refreshments will be served.
