RUMFORD — The Scottish band Imar will be featured at 49 Franklin’s Mystic Theater at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Imar features: bodhrán player Adam Brown (RURA), originally from Suffolk; Cork-born uilleann piper, flautist and whistle player Ryan Murphy (Mànran); fiddler Tomás Callister and bouzouki ace Adam Rhodes (Barrule/Mabon); both from the Isle of Man; and Glasgow native Mohsen Amini (Talisk) on concertina. Imar’s paths first crossed, as its future members began to amass what’s now a heavyweight collective haul of top prizes – nine All-Ireland and eight All-Britain titles between them.

All three places once shared the same Gaelic language — the name Imar comes from a 9th-century king who reigned across this combined territory — and a similar kinship endures between their musical traditions. At the same time, they reflect all the different backgrounds, including Scotland. To begin with, they’ve been leaning toward playing more traditional material, but they’re known bring in some of thir own compositions too, as well as other contemporary tunes. 

Doors open at 6 p.m. for cash-only, pub-style menu and cash bar. Tickets at the door are $20 and special advanced tickets are $15, available downtown Rumford at Bartash’s and All That Jazz, also on-line at www.49franklin.com. Enter the theater at the upper back parking lot.
