PARIS – A Bethel man was killed early Sunday morning on Route 26 after veering off-road and striking a utility pole.

Det. Sgt. Michael Dailey of the Paris Police Department said that Luke Davis, 19, was driving north on Route 26 in Paris when his 2005 Suburu Outback crossed the center line, went off the left side of the roadway and crashed through a chain link fence at KBS Builders Inc.

Dailey said that Davis’ vehicle then struck and broke a utility pole and rolled on its side.

“Emergency personnel needed to wait for Central Maine Power to shut down the power grid in the area before they could safely access and extricate Davis from his vehicle,” Dailey said.

Davis was wearing his seatbelt during the crash, he added.

The Paris Police Department responded to the accident, along with Norway Police, the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Paris Fire Department, and PACE Ambulance.

Dailey said that while the Paris Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash, “neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors at this point.”

Route 26 was closed between the Paris Hill Road intersection and Route 26 north of the crash for several hours while the investigation took place, Dailey said.
