AREA meeting and annual auction

AUBURN — The Androscoggin Retired Educators’ Association will hold its next meeting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Sixth St. Congregational Church, 109 Sixth St.

This is their annual scholarship auction. Bring an item for auction before 10 a.m. so that it can be put on the table for others to see. Items may include food such as pies, cookies, brownies or bars, candy, fudge, etc. Other items include books, puzzles, games, knick-knacks.

Lunch will be served by the ladies of the church. The menu will consist of meat loaf, mashed potato, green beans, cole slaw, apple pie and ice cream, and beverage. The cost of the meal is $10.

Sampson vets to meet

LEWISTON — The October get together of the Southern Maine Squadron of the Sampson AFBVA will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Chick-a-dee restaurant, Lisbon Street. This is an informal monthly get-together of veterans who went through basic training at Sampson AFB and their guests. Sampson was at first a Navy training base, then reactivated as a basic training base for the Air Force in the Korean War era. All veterans are welcome to attend.

This will be the last get together of the summer schedule, they will resume in the spring.

Fall Mediums’ Day fair

SABATTUS — The Spiritualist Church of Eternal Life, 352 Crowley Road, will hold a fall Mediums’ Day Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

Medium readings will be available at $15 for 15 mins. or  $30 for mins. Bake sale, Reiki, henna, massage therapy and more. Admission is $1.

Bog Hoot Quilt Society meeting

MECHANIC FALLS — Area residents who enjoy crafts and companionship are invited to join community and church members at the Anglican Church of the Transfiguration (formerly the Mechanic Falls Congregational Church) on Elm Street for the Bog Hoot Quilt Society meeting.

The group meetis at 10 a.m. Tuesdays. The entrance to the downstairs is from the driveway to the church.

There are plenty of tables for quilting projects, an ironing board and a cutting board, and the coffee pot is on. Participants are invited to bring any project they are working on, including knitting, crocheting and needle crafts, or they may join in on church projects.

CMCC to hold open house

AUBURN — Central Maine Community College (CMCC) will host its annual fall open house for prospective students and their families from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct 13, at its lakeside campus at 1250 Turner St.

In addition to having all academic programs, student organizations, and athletics represented, staff members and students will be ready to assist with the admissions and financial aid application processes. Students who complete an admissions application at the open house will have their application fee waived. All who attend can take a guided tour of the campus or visit certain programs, services or housing facilities. Culinary Arts students will provide refreshments.
