LEWISTON – Dorothy H. (Doten) Bentley, 99, of Lewiston and formerly of Auburn, passed away on Thursday Oct. 11, 2018 at Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston. She was born at Central Maine General in Lewiston on May 30, 1919, the daughter of the late Harold and Clarice (Holmes) Doten. She grew up in the Lewiston area, attended local schools and was a graduate of Lewiston High School.
Dorothy attended Bates College and graduated in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History.
After graduation, she moved to Gloucester, Mass., where she met and eventually married Philip M. Bentley on June 29, 1947. They shared many years together.
During that time, Dorothy worked as a teacher and later relocated back to Maine where she was an office manager for the YWCA in Lewiston. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Auburn. She had a testimony of Jesus Christ as her Savior.
Dorothy was an elocution specialist enjoying drama and will always be remembered for her love of reading, classical music, arts and crafts, dogs, yellow cats and meercats. She also had very unique collections of knick knacks. And most of all, Dorothy was very social and loved life.
She is survived by her daughter, Annie Rasmussen, currently of Texas. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Bentley; and her brother, Richard Doten.
