Ballroom dancing lessons offered

RANGELEY — The Rangeley Friends of the Arts is offering Beginner Ballroom Dancing Lessons at Moose Alley for seven weeks, beginning Wednesday, Oct 25.

Instructor Val Zapolsky will teach ballroom basics. The lessons will take place at 5 p.m. on seven Thursdays this fall: Oct. 25, Nov. 1, 8 and 29, Dec. 6, 13, and 20.

The cost for all seven weeks is $50 for an adult, $75 for couples and lessons are free to students and student couples in grades 5-12. Individual class sessions are $8 for an adult, $12 for couples.

Club to hold benefit for Rumford resident

RUMFORD — A benefit will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Rumford Eagles to benefit Debbie Buotte in her battle against leukemia.

The event includes a Chinese auction and a dance, will take place at the Rumford Eagles. There will be a spaghetti dinner and desserts starting at 6 p.m. Cost: $6 for just dinner, $10 for just DJ and $15 for both. The bar will be open.

Genealogy with B.J. Jamieson

NORWAY — Norway’s Memorial Library and Historical Society will host a genealogy program from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the library.

Maine State Library Genealogy Research Specialist B.J. Jamieson will explain how to do genealogical research using the new Digital Maine Library.

Snowmobile club to hold monthly meeting

DURHAM — The Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club (Durham, Freeport, Pownal) meets on the last Tuesday of each month from September to April. Meetings are held at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road, beginning at 7 p.m.

The next meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 30. New members are welcome.

Veterans Rememberance program to meet

HARRISON — The Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 14, at the museum for a “Veterans Remembrance” program. All are welcome.

On Nov 11, which is actually Veterans Day, take a few moments to stop, thank, and think of all the men and women who fought for our freedom and those serving today.

Texas Hold’em to at Legion Hall

OXFORD —  The Oxford American Legion, 169 King St., will host Texas Hold’em on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Doors open at noon, table draw is at 12:45 p.m. and the game starts at 1. Buy-in is $55, $5 optional for high hand play. Pull tabs, 50/50 and cash payouts. Food will be available.
