Church shows film on health, illness

FARMINGTON — The film “Eating you Alive” will be shown for free at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at the SDA Church, 380 New Vineyard Road.

The movie takes a comprehensive look into why humans are so sick and shares inspirational stories of people who have reversed chronic disease. A light snack for the movie will be served.  

Live auction to benefit Black Mountain

RUMFORD — Friends of Black Mountain are hosting their sixth annual Live Auction to benefit Black Mountain of Maine on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the mountain, 39 Glover Road.

Mike Brennick of Rumford will be the auctioneer. Children are welcome but must be supervised at all times and seated with a parent or guardian.

This year’s auction items include Celtic Tickets, ski furniture, VIP Club seats to a UMaine vs Boston University Hockey game, art and much more.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the auction begins at 6 p.m. The cafe will be open for purchases from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and the Last Run Pub will be open.

Food program fundraiser to be held

LOVELL — A fundraiser for the Sunshine Backpack Food Program will feature a locally crafted chili cook-off and locally crafted beer tasting.

The fundraiser will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the VFW Hall, 31 Smarts Hill Road. Cost is $10 per person.

Grange hosts contradance

FARMINGTON — The Grange, 124 Bridge St., will be host a contradance at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Irish music will be featured.

FARMINGTON — The Farmington Baptist Church, 194 Whittier Road, will be showing the American Christian drama film, “I Can Only Imagine,” at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10.

Free college planning workshop offered

WILTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center is offering a free workshop, Essentials of College Planning, for adults 19 and older. The workshop will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Wilton Career Center, 865 U.S. Route 2E.

The workshop outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career planning and study skills. The program lasts approximately one to two hours. Pre-registration is required.

Fiddlers to perform at bell tower fundraiser

CHESTERVILLE — The Franklin County Fiddlers will perform at the Chesterville Center Union Meeting House at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.

Admission is by donation with proceeds to help fund repairs to the Meeting House bell tower. The Fiddlers play music styles ranging from American Old-Time to Canadian Maritime, and Celtic to Quebecois.

Skeet shooting at fish and game 

WATERFORD — Recreational skeet shooting is held at 1 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. Thursdays at the Waterford Fish & Game Association, Route 118.
