Katherine (Vlahos) Angelakis

Worcester, Mass. — Katherine (Vlahos) Angelakis, 96, formerly of Ipswich, Mass., passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2018. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter T. Angelakis, formerly of Peabody, MA. They were deeply devoted to each other’s happiness during their 59 years of marriage.  Peter was the love of her life and through their relationship she demonstrated the importance of commitment and devotion.

Kay was born and raised in Ipswich, MA. the daughter of the late Constantine “Gust” and Maria (Moustakis) Vlahos. She is survived by her three loving children, Joni Angelakis Wood and husband Tom of Smithfield,ME, Maria Angelakis Gorton and husband Peter, and beloved son, Teddy Angelakis. She was a devoted wife and homemaker.  She will be remembered for her beauty, love of family and friends and her amazing Greek cooking.

 Kay shared her many stories of growing up in Ipswich as as a Greek-American.She was very independent, forward thinking and claimed to be the first Greek girl in Ipswich to ride a bicycle. She worked at Sylvania prior to marriage. Kay loved to travel, walk Crane Beach with close friends, and go dancing with Peter.  She was witty and had a dry sense of humor which entertained many.  She could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel valued.

 With a true mother’s heart she always provided love, encouragement, and support to her family and friends. “Yiayia” had a close relationship with her grandchildren Sarah (Roberts) Kyriazis of Worcester,MA,  Jacob Angelakis of Farmington, ME, Peter Roberts of Farmington, ME, and Rachel (Roberts) McInnis of Waterville ME. They remember countless times spent around the kitchen table while she made her perfect grilled cheese sandwiches and Strawberry Nestle Quick in addition to sharing her secrets of her Greek cooking. She extended her love as “Yiayia Katina” to her her 8 great-grandchildren. She would especially enjoy those times when her great grandchildren came to visit

 Kay was the oldest of 7 children. She is survived by her beloved brother George Vlahos and his wife Christl, her “baby” sister Tanya (Vlahos) Markos, her brother-in-law Spiro Angelakis, and sister-in-laws Maria Angelakis and Kaye (Angelakis) Nicolakis and husband Manual. She is pre-deceased by her sisters Athena, Cleopatra, and Patoula and her brother Evreadre.

She will be remembered by cousins, nieces, and nephews for gracefully hosting holidays in her beautiful home in Ipswich, with warm hospitality, authentic Greek food and much laughter around the dining room table.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held Friday, November 2, at 10:00 A.M. at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich. Interment will follow at the Cowles Memorial Cemetery 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Thursday, November 1st, from 4:00 to 7:30 P.M. in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
