What to expect: Berube expects that Lewiston and St. Dom’s will be the teams to beat in the North this year, but the Red Hornets are planning to be a more competitive team in the regular season and the playoffs. Guimond is entering her third year as the starter in goal, and she has the ability the steal a couple games for the Red Hornets.

Greely/Gray-New Gloucester Rangers

Coach: Nate Guerin (ninth year)

Region: North

Last year’s results: 19-3 (state champions).

Returning athletes: Senior — Jayme Morrison (D); Junior — Leah Walker (D); Sophomores — Maddie Pelletier (F), Camilla Lattanzi (D).

Key losses: Courtney Sullivan (F), Bridget Roberts (F), Molly Horton (F), Jordyn Owens (G).

Promising newcomers: Senior — Linnea Koivisto (F; exchange student from Finland); Freshman — Kerry Roberts (F, Bridget Roberts’ younger sister).

What to expect: The defending state champs graduated 75 percent of their goals scored for last year’s team, and also lost their starting goalie due to a move out of state. The returning experience comes mainly on defense. Guerin said it will take time for the team to figure out everyone’s roles. The Rangers expect to make the playoffs, and as they showed year as the No. 3 seed, at that point anything can happen.
