LEWISTON – Maurice R. Levasseur, 75, of Lewiston, died after a short battle with cancer on Dec. 11, 2018, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. He was born in Lewiston, June 11, 1943, the son of Leonide and Donat Levasseur. He graduated from St. Dominic Academy in Lewiston in 1961 and attended college in St. Cloud, Minn.

Maurice served four years in the U.S. Navy before becoming employed in the Lewiston Daily Sun composing room. Maurice remained there for 29 years, becoming a photographer for the newspaper when the composing room was phased out due to technology. He was then employed in the Bates College Physical Plant Department retiring in 2011. He married Susan E. Littefield on May 16, 1998 at Sts. Peter and Paul Basilica. They enjoyed traveling, especially in Canada and Vermont, and Maurice recorded their travels through his photography. He also took many photos of their cats and enjoyed reading, walking in the neighborhood and using the computer. Maurice was a longtime member of the Lewiston Lodge of Elks and worked his way through the chairs, becoming Exalted Ruler.

He is survived by his wife, Susan of Lewiston; a sister, Georgette Ranauro of Falmouth, Mass.; nieces and nephews.

His brother, George, died in 1995.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Funeral Alternatives, 25 Tampa Street, Lewiston on Wednesday, December 19 from 10-11 a.m. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery, Lewiston will be private.
