LEWISTON – Dolores “Dolly” Grenier, 71, formerly of Monmouth, passed away on Dec. 12, 2018 at Montello Manor in Lewiston, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She had been in declining health for many years. Dolly was born in Lewiston on Jan. 15, 1947 to Laurent and Cecile (Rioux) Rivard in Lewiston. She attended Lewiston schools through her junior year of high school. Later in life, she earned her high school diploma from Monmouth Academy. She continued her education at Mid State College and earned an associate degree in Travel and Tourism, eventually, working as a travel agent. Dolly married John “Skeeter” Grenier on May 29, 1965. Together they had many wonderful adventures traveling across the country, raising four children, taking in their niece, Angie, and loving her as their own. One of Dolly’s favorite things to do was to sit by the pond John had dug on their property. She would sit on a swing and watch her grandchildren swim in the pond during the summer and ice skate in the winter. Dolly also loved camping at Tacoma Lakes Family Campground in Litchfield, where she made many lifelong friends.

A sure way to make Dolly smile after she entered the nursing home, was to bring her a lobster roll, onion pizza or ham italian. And you did not bring her a Thanksgiving meal if you did not include the turkey leg! She also looked forward to her Sunday visits from her son Don. Dolly was very creative and artistic. She could knit anything, from the most complicated sweaters or blankets to the most detailed Barbie doll clothes for her daughters and nieces. She was also an award winning ceramics teacher for quite a few years. She won blue ribbons in every ceramic show she entered.

Dolly was predeceased by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Teresa (Rivard) Goding.

She is survived by her children, Sue McLean and her husband, Jim of Birch Harbor, Donald Grenier of Auburn, Larry Grenier and his wife, Bobbie-jo of Monmouth, Michelle Gaghan and her husband, Rusty of Winthrop; and a very special niece, Angie Gay and her husband, Sean; her grandchildren, Kerstin Grenier of Standish, Rebecca McLean of Peterborough N.H., McKay McLean of Birch Harbor, Bryan Gaghan of Farmingdale, Cameron Gaghan and Brooklyn Gaghan of Winthrop. Also surviving are her three brothers, Richard Rivard and his wife, Linda of Murfreesboro Tenn., Gil Rivard and his wife, Elaine of Minot, Don Rivard and his wife, Jane of Lisbon Falls, brothers-in-law, Pete Grenier and his wife, Dolly of Lewiston, Eddie Grenier and his wife, Connie of Auburn, sister-in-law and best friend, Jeannette Nolin of Lewiston, sisters-in-law, Jackie Caron and her husband, Don of Minot, Madeline Ouellette and her husband, Bob of Auburn, Lorraine Cormier of McEwen Tenn., Virginia Brown of Lewiston, Micki Tibbetts of Pensacola Fla.
