CANTON — Residents can expect to see representatives from a tax assessment company asking to inspect their buildings beginning this month, according to a notice from the town.

John O’Donnell and Associates will perform the inspections.

The purpose is so the town can fairly tax property owners, Selectman Russell Adams said Friday. The most recent property revaluation was in 2007, he said.

The property tax rate for 2018-19 is $17.50 per $1,000 of property value, a decrease of $2.35 from last year. The lower rate is attributed to taxes from the $50 million Canton Mountain wind power project, Adams said.

If have further questions they can attend selectmen meetings, he said.

Residents with questions regarding their property revaluation can also talk to Paul Binette, the town’s tax assessor, who will be available at the Town Office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. To schedule an appointment with Binette, call the Town Office at 207-597-2920.
