LEWISTON – With loving family members by his side, Robert R. Bernier, 57, of Lewiston, died peacefully on Dec. 26, 2018, at St Mary’s Hospital, in Lewiston.

The son of Raymond and Theresa Bernier, Bob was born in Lewiston on Nov. 8, 1961. He lived a quiet and simple life, never needing much to find happiness. With his touch of humor, he was a kind-hearted man who cared deeply about his family, especially his elderly mother, whom he would visit and call daily, always concerned about her well being. Without fail, each Saturday morning he would thoughtfully bring her her favorite donuts and regularly helped with her everyday chores.

Bob was employed in the bakery department at Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shop. He enjoyed working outdoors, watching TV westerns and his favorite sports team, the New England Patriots. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren especially at Christmas, his favorite time of year. He never missed acknowledging a family member’s birthday with a card, gift, or phone call.

He accepted his lung cancer diagnosis with amazing courage and fought to overcome his disease with all his strength and without complaint. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Bob is survived by his mother, Theresa Bernier; his sons, Raymond and Benjamin, Nichole Leriche Dustin and her husband, Matthew Dustin and Nathan McLean; his grandchildren, Bobby, Jazmin, Echo and Locklyn Bernier, Sydney and Brock Dustin, Aiden and Elijah McLean; sisters, Lucille Zaleski and husband, Edward, Pauline Plourde and husband, Richard, Diane Gilpatrick and husband, Frank, Doris Nadeau, a brother, Roger and wife, Penny.

He was predeceased by his father, Raymond; and sister, Louise Dubois and her husband, Bertrand.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses in the Oncology department and ICU at St. Mary’s for their professional and compassionate care during Bob’s journey through treatment and final days.
