Old Town High School and the RSU 34 Educational Foundation has announced its 2018 Hall of Fame class.

The Hall of Fame is dedicated to establishing and celebrating the school’s rich sports history. The 2018 class includes former Mr. Baseball award winner Jarrett Lukas ’07, Casey Costigan ’91, Debbie Godsoe Rand ’96 and Jake Leithiser ’11. This year the hall also will induct its first two members who will go in as contributors. Those inductees include Joe Cyr ’59 and the Sargent Corporation.

This year’s class will be inducted at a ceremony on Saturday January 26 in the high school’s cafeteria which is free and open to the public. The event begins with a meet and greet at 1 p.m. followed by the induction ceremony at 1:30 p.m. The class of 2018 will also be recognized at halftime of the boys basketball game that afternoon against Hermon where they will receive their Hall of Fame plaques.

The following are bios for this year’s class.

Athletes:

Jarrett Lukas ‘07: A member of the Old Town baseball and Football teams it would be the diamond where Jarrett would make a name for himself. Lukas batted .400 or better in all three seasons of varsity baseball with 14 home runs. He wrapped up his high school career by claiming every individual postseason award including the John Winkin Award as Mr. Baseball, Maine Gatorade Player of the Year, Louisville Slugger Maine Baseball Player of the Year and the Maine Sunday Telegram State Baseball MVP. Lukas was also the starting quarterback on the football team all four years in high school.

Jarrett would continue his playing career for two seasons at the University of Maine where he was the starting third baseman for both seasons. During that time he batted .320 with 9 home runs and 63 RBI. He was named to the America East All-Rookie team his freshman season.

After his sophomore season Lukas left baseball to focus his attention on getting his degree in biochemistry. Today Jarrett is a member of the Green Berets, one of the most prestigious military units in the world.

Casey Costigan ‘91: A dominant force on the basketball court, Costigan helped Old Town take home the Class A State Championship in 1991. Over his last two seasons his teams posted a combined 34-8 record and still ranks 8th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 908 points.

Following the team’s state title performance Casey was named to the McDonald’s East/West All-Star team, the class A All-Tourney team and the Bangor Daily News All-Maine first team. He was also a 2-time selection to the Big East All-Conference first team. Additionally, Costigan spent time on the gridiron playing tight end and defensive end for the Old Town football team.

His basketball career continued at St. Joseph’s College where he helped the Monks claim two conference championships and two NAIA New England Championships. During his four years in Standish the Monks posted a record of 86-26 and was named team captain his senior season.

Jake Leithiser ‘11: Jake excelled on the track and soccer field during his time at Old Town. While competing in indoor track Leithiser was a two-time State Champion in the high jump and placed 6th in the New England’s. During his senior season he was undefeated in every regular season league event he participated in, won three league championship events and was named the meet’s Outstanding Performer. Jake was first team All-Conference in four events and still holds three school records.

In outdoor track Jake was a four-year letter winner and team captain. His senior season he won the Class B state championship in the long jump and 300 meter hurdles. He won the PVC Championship in the long jump and high jump and was a two-time PVC Champion in the 300M hurdles. Leithiser was First Team All-State in the long jump and high hurdles and twice named PVC All-Conference in three events. On the soccer field Jake was a 3-year starter where he racked up 27 goals and 10 assists. In 2010 he was an All-PVC first team selection and State Class B East Region All-Star.

Upon graduation Jake attended the University of Maine where he was a 3-time America East All-Conference selection in outdoor track and a 2-time America East indoor track All-Conference selection. Leithiser is still in the UMaine record books including number 2 in the heptathlon, number 2 in the 400m, number 7 in the 60 meter hurdles and number 4 in the 4×400 meter relay. After his UMaine career Jake competed in the Olympic trials in the 400 meter run.

Debra Godsoe Rand ‘96: Debbie was a 3-sport athlete for Old Town High School participating in cross country, swimming and outdoor track. In the pool Godsoe is part of the legendary dominance of Old Town swimming as evidenced by her part in winning four state championships. Now, 22 years after graduating from OTHS, she still owns five school records including the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.

In addition to being named All-State in multiple events, she was also named Class B Swimmer of the Year in 1993. Godsoe was a four-year letter winner and captain in both outdoor track and cross country where she was one of the school’s top middle distance runners as she qualified and competed in multiple states meets.

Contributors:

Joe Cyr ‘59: While Joe was a three sport athlete at Old Town High School, his contributions have continued long after graduation and have had a major impact as it relates to providing opportunities in athletics for those that have come after him.

Joe and his family have played a significant role over the years to make sure the school’s athletes have had appropriate facilities to practice and play their respective sports. These projects include lights for Victory Field, the Cyr Family Field House located at the Old Town/Orono YMCA and the all-weather track at the newly renovated Victory Field. He made significant contributions that have allowed the schools swimming pool to remain open and operational as the home of the one of the most prestigious swim programs in the state.

As a member of the Old Town Rotary Club, Joe has donated many hours of his time to work with fellow Rotarians on new construction and renovation projects.

Sargent Corporation: As a longstanding member of the Old Town business community Sargent Corporation has been a major contributor to Old Town Athletics. When plans were in the works to renovate Victory Field in 2012, Sargent Corporation stepped forward to provide significant resources that included completing the groundwork that made way for an 8-lane all-weather track, grandstand, press box and new practice field.

Years earlier Sargent’s played another role in the transformation of Victory Field with donations that brought lights to the facility allowing for the play of Friday night football.
