BETHEL — Granite Backcountry Alliance, a backcountry skiing nonprofit in Western Maine and New Hampshire, will present its Backcountry Film Festival at The Gem Theater on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Social hour is at 6 p.m., film is at 7.

The alliance is teaming up with local conservation group, Mahoosuc Land Trust, with all proceeds benefiting backcountry tree skiing and land conservation projects in the Mahoosuc Mountain Range.

The alliance presents the Backcountry Film Festival in select locations throughout Western Maine and New Hampshire each season. The nonprofit organization’s focus is on improving the sport of backcountry skiing by providing low-impact human-powered tree skiing opportunities to the public through the creation, improvement and maintenance of ski glades.

The alliance has established projects in the White Mountain National Forest, Weeks State Park, Randolph, New Hampshire community forest, and on private land in Gorham, New Hampshire, as well as several maintenance projects in the national forest. The alliance is exploring new terrain options in Western Maine.

The Backcountry Film Festival is produced by the alliance’s national parent organization, Winter Wildlands Alliance. Winter Wildlands Alliance is a nonprofit organization working at the national level to inspire and educate the backcountry community to protect and care for their winter landscapes.
