Night Sky Snowshoe Tour with Northern Skies Planetarium
DALLAS PLANTATION — John Meader, owner of the Northern Skies Planetarium, will lead a night snowshoe at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Rangeley Lakes Trails Center, 524 Saddleback Mountain Road.
Since 1987 the Northern Skies Planetarium has traveled across Maine schools and libraries educating children in an inflatable star theater. The pandemic has created the opportunity for not only children, but families and individuals to learn about astronomy.
The Sky Tour will depart the Trails Center Yurt trekking to Saddleback Lake stopping to learn about the night sky. Upon return to the yurt, there will be a warming fire.
Snowshoes will be provided free by the RLTC, but supplies are limited.

Webinar to feature Maine equity dialogue
AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta will host a webinar featuring a panel of experts on trans health, health equity and healthcare inequalities in Maine, “Health Equity Dialogues: Healthcare & Health Equity in Transgender Communities,” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10.

The first dialogue will continue its topical discussions around the concept that health equity is the justice principle that everyone should have an equal opportunity to achieve health. Panelists from MaineTransNet, Mabel Wadsworth Center and Maine Medical Center’s Gender Clinic will convene to discuss health and healthcare issues that affect trans communities in Maine.
The goal of the Health Equity Dialogues is to convene and connect scholars, community members, public health professionals, and healthcare practitioners across disciplinary divides and siloes to work on high-priority community health challenges in Maine.
Alzheimer’s Foundation offers scholarships
NEW YORK — The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is offering scholarships to college-bound high school seniors affected by Alzheimer’s disease of up to $5,000 as part of its annual Teens for Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship Essay Contest. Entries can be submitted at alzfdn.org/scholarship and must be received by Monday, Feb. 15.
AFA’s scholarship essay contest invites high school seniors to write a 1,200- to 1,500-word essay that describes how Alzheimer’s disease impacted them, their families or their communities, and what they have learned from their experiences.
The grand prize winner will receive a $5,000 college scholarship. Prizes will also be awarded for first runner-up, $2,500; second runner-up, $1,500; and honorable mentions, between $1,000 and $400.

Credit union scholarship applications open
JAY — OTIS Federal Credit Union has announced that it is accepting applications for its 2021 scholarship program. The credit union will award five $500 scholarships this year to graduating high school seniors who are members of OTIS FCU.
