Thomas J. Twitchell

OXFORD – Thomas J. Twitchell, husband, father and grandfather went home to heaven on Feb. 4, 2021, eight hours before his 96th birthday.

Thomas was born Feb. 5, 1925 to Leon and Ethel (Trebilcock) Twitchell in Oxford. Raised on the Twitchell farm on Fore Street, Thomas was dedicated to the farm all his life. He began working as soon as he was old enough to do chores. Thomas had an excellent work ethic and excelled in many different jobs until his retirement in 2010 at the age of 85.

One of Thomas’s passions was the Mechanic Falls Campground. It was there he met the love of his life, Edna Philbrick. Thomas and Edna were married on June 17 1950 and enjoyed 68 years of marriage until Edna’s death on August 14, 2018. Thomas was a trustee at the campground and was instrumental in getting the new Tabernacle built.

Thomas had many jobs over the years and was a man who could do about anything. He worked at Twitchell Farm Equipment, Wilner’s Wood Products, AC Lawrence Co., CN Brown, CB Cummings, Norway Transfer Station, and Walmart to name a few. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Town of Norway for many years.

Thomas is survived by his son, Stephen T. Twitchell and wife Bernadette of Oxford, daughter Susan J. Hanscom and husband David of Mason Township; grandson, Scott W. Richardson of Windham; granddaughter, Lisa S. Bailey and husband Cory and their four daughters of Massachusetts; a step-grandson, David T. Hanscom and wife Amy and their three daughters, of West Bethel; and a step-granddaughter, Rebecca Cole and husband Charles and their two daughters and one son of Windham; and two step-great-grandsons, Brandon and Trevor Boody of Bridgton. He is also survived by his special sister, Alberta Twitchell of South Paris; and many nieces and nephews.

Thomas is predeceased by his wife; a son-in-law, Wayne A. Richardson; a step-granddaughter, Tina Boody; his parents; sisters, Louise Osborne, Marion Boyd, Dorothy Herrick and brothers, Albert Twitchell and a baby brother, Arthur.

The family would especially like to thank Androscoggin Health and Hospice for their care of Thomas for the last two weeks.
