Leo N. Savard

AUBURN – Leo N. Savard, 89, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021 at the Androscoggin Hospice house in Auburn with family by his side. He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 26, 1931, the only child of Arthur and Alice (Blais) Savard. He attended local schools.Leo proudly served in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1952 as an aircraft technician aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, (CV-42). In 2018, Leo was a participant in the Honor Flight Program which honors and thanks military veterans for their service to our country.He was married on Dec. 29, 1951 to Lucille M. Robichaud in Lewiston who predeceased him on Oct. 28, 2012. During his lifetime, Leo worked in the family business, Pine Grove Dairy, owned a distributorship with Old tavern Farm Dairy, served as president and steward of the Cairo Club, and from 1986 until his retirement in 2005, was the founder/president of Amerifirst Appraisal Company, Inc. After Lucille’s passing Leo undertook the most rewarding chapter of his working life, as a hospice volunteer at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn and at the Togus Va Medical Center Hospice in Augusta. His volunteer work continued until COVID-19 restrictions in 2020-ended volunteer services at the two facilities.In the late 1960’s Leo was part of the local group, which formed the Lewiston-Auburn Youth Hockey program and coached youth hockey and baseball teams. He was an avid Boston Bruins fan. He was also a Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping and fishing.He was predeceased by his mother and father; his wife Lucille; a grandson, Jeremy Savard, and a granddaughter, Jessica (Savard) Whitman.Leo is survived by three sons, Gary and wife Diane, Paul and wife Doris, and Norman and Lori Lyons; grandchildren John and Brian Savard, Stephanie and Tony Savard, Josh Savard and Elizabeth Cormier; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.Services will be held at a later date.
